This seminar is the perfect introduction for anyone who wants to learn about Japanese SAKE culture for the first step. The seminar is comprised of (1) Basic Knowledge (2) Tasting Session. At the end of the seminar, you'll be certified as SAKE NAVIGATOR qualification.
SAKE SERVICE INSTITUTION (SSI) is an important organization in SAKE service industry, which manages SAKE sommelier "KIKISAKE-SHI" qualification in the world. SAKE NAVIGATOR qualification is issued by this organization to the attendees.
LEVEL: ENTRY
This is an official certification aimed at broadening your enjoyment of sake by learning more about its appeal from a consumer's perspective and acquiring knowledge.

This course is for those who want to learn about Japanese SAKE culture in a systematic way and acquire specialized knowledge.
SEMINAR CONTENT: 2 PARTS, ① LECTURE ② TASTING
① LECTURE: In addition to learning about sake terminology, ingredients, production methods, history.
② TASETING: Learn how to understand the unique aroma/flavor/taste of SAKE and also tip for food-pairing. The professional Grand SAKE Master Taster provides the special experience.
CERTIFICATION:
It is officially certified by the organization SAKE SERVICE INSTITUTE (SSI), which is the administration of the advanced qualification "SAKE Sommelier." It will be send to your home via Airmail.

The officially certified professional SAKE lecturer/educator and Grand Washu Master Taster of Japanese SAKE/SHOCHU. Tomoko Fujikawa is awarded the best SAKE sommelier, she won the excellence award on Retail Service Category and the Judges' Special Award "SAKE HUNDRED" at the 6th World SAKE Sommelier Competition which was held in Tokyo in Feb 2025. Q. What is SAKE NAVIGATOR (NIHONSHU NAVIGATOR)?
A. This is an entry level of SAKE qualification for SAKE enthusiasts, SAKE lovers and professional. This qualification can be obtained by attending a seminar held by an officially certified SAKE lecturer who is the professional SAKE educator. The seminar is composed of two parts: (1) a lecture to learn the basics knowledge, (2) a tasting time. The attendees can acquire the specialized knowledge and will be able to enjoy more when drinking SAKE. The officially issued certification will be given.
Q. What is the level?
A. The entry level for the beginners. It's not difficult but need to understand the technical terms related to SAKE making e.g. KOJI and the traditional brewing method. Even if you find it a bit difficult, it will be a great opportunity to open the door to a new world. If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the Q&A session. The atmosphere in the class room is relaxing.
Tips from educator:
The most efficient way to study SAKE culture is to learn from an experienced educator. Many people who attended the seminar say the verbal explanations is necessary to reach to the real understanding than just reading the guide books because especially SAKE making process is complicated as it's been developed in the long history over 2,000 years.
